I’m very close to people who think it’s “powerful” to have a child. I can’t think of anything more powerful than to forego your own desires to take care of the future of our planet and our species.

There are so many good reasons to not have children: preventing climate change, keeping economic resources (money, jobs, etc) abundant, and finally, there are so many children that need good homes via adoption and foster care.

I have always known these things intrinsically (and along with not having a terrible fondness for children, admittedly); I’ve never understood why anyone would have their own children. However, this is so scarcely discussed because of the one “argument” on the other side of this debate: people want to have children. It’s taboo to discuss the downsides of it. It’s so beautiful to see people taking a look at global needs (instead of just individual needs) with respect to having children.
