Generations—Anonymous

My sister and I made a pact at a very young age that we would never have children, at the time, we did so in solidarity to break the cycle of domestic/child abuse that was occurring in our family.

As my sister and myself grew older, she was leaning to have children, then in the early 80’s we both read a book, “The Handmaid’s Tale”.  We again both decided until the violence acted upon women in the US’s culture, we would not have children.  To this day, my sister and I have never had children; the violence perpetrated towards women by men, has only gotten worse, more frequent and acceptable in the eyes of this society.  No, we will not bear children into this type of world, where men continue to treat women as chattel to do as they please.
